Ontario Cancer Statistics 2020 is the third in a series of reports that provides comprehensive information on the burden of cancer in Ontario. It is produced every 2 years by the Surveillance Program of Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario). The report is organized around 4 main types of indicators: incidence, mortality, survival and prevalence.
The information in this report is intended to support decision-makers, the public health community, healthcare providers, researchers and others in planning, investigating, measuring and monitoring population-based cancer control efforts, including those related to cancer screening, prevention and treatment. The report may also be useful for the media and general public with an interest in cancer.
Two special focus chapters in this edition of Ontario Cancer Statistics explore long-term projections of cancer incidence and mortality, and the burden of rare cancers in Ontario.
For the first time, this report includes statistics about cancer in children (ages 0 to 14 years), contributed by our partner the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO). See the spotlights on childhood cancer in Chapter 5 (incidence), Chapter 6 (mortality) and Chapter 7 (survival).

Ontario Cancer Statistics 2022 features a special focus on the estimated future prevalence of cancer in Ontario.
Ontario Cancer Statistics 2018 features a special focus on the burden of comorbidity among individuals with cancer and the impact of wait times to surgical treatment on survival for selected cancers. Cancer statistics are also provided by public health unit.
Ontario Cancer Statistics 2016 includes “in-focus” spotlights featuring statistics on clinically relevant indicators for breast, cervical, colorectal, head and neck, lung and prostate cancers.

Ontario Cancer Profiles is a self-serve, interactive mapping tool that gives the user the ability to create custom graphs, maps and tables that show recent provincial and regional statistics on select cancer burden, risk factor and screening indicators. This allows the user to create profiles that support targeted cancer control and prevention efforts.
Ontario Cancer Registry SEER*Stat is a statistical software package that contains Ontario cancer data files derived from the Ontario Cancer Registry. It helps analysts produce incidence, mortality, survival and prevalence statistics for studying the impact of cancer on the Ontario population.
Cancer System Quality Index highlights where cancer service providers can advance the quality and performance of care. The report includes 31 indicators spanning the continuum of cancer care, along with several measures related to cancer prevention.
Ontario Cancer Facts are short, monthly fact sheets intended to increase knowledge about cancer and its risk modifiers in Ontario. Data typically originate from sources including the Ontario Cancer Registry, Cancer Care Ontario publications, and federal, provincial or regional health surveys. Readers may subscribe to receive Ontario Cancer Facts by email.
Prevention System Quality Index describes the distribution of cancer risk factors in the Ontario population, and recommends system-level policies and programs that can reduce cancer risk factors.
Cancer Risk Factors in Ontario is a series of reports that review the epidemiologic evidence linking a broad range of risk factors to various types of cancer in Ontario. These reports serve as a reference and foundation for prevention efforts, especially for planning and reporting on cancer prevention actions.
Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) works to ensure that everyone affected by childhood cancer has access to the best care and support. They partner to achieve the best childhood cancer care system for children, youth, their families and survivors in Ontario and beyond. POGO champions childhood cancer care and is the official advisor to Ontario’s Ministry of Health on children’s cancer control and treatment.
Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders (CORD) is Canada’s national network for organizations representing people with rare disorders. The organization provides a strong common voice to advocate for health policy and a healthcare system that works for those with rare disorders. CORD works with governments, researchers, clinicians and industry to promote research, diagnosis, treatment and services for all rare disorders in Canada.
