ᓇᒧᙵᐅᕙᓪᓕᐊᓂᖅᐳᑦ (Our Journey)

When a father and his son need to travel many kilometers to southern Ontario for cancer care, a family must face this separation together. This story shares some of the realities of the cancer journey for Inuit.

ᓇᒧᙵᐅᕙᓪᓕᐊᓂᖅᐳᑦ (Our Journey) aims to provide education and awareness about cancer prevention, screening, treatment and survivorship for Inuit community members and their families. This work would not have been possible without the invaluable input from the Champlain Inuit Service Provider Relationship Table and contributions from Tungasuvvingat Inuit, Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada, Ottawa Health Services Network Inc. and The Ottawa Hospital.

This comic is tailored towards community members of any age to help with understanding cancer and the journey to survivorship. It is designed to help with understanding cancer and to support prevention initiatives.

It is our hope that it will:

  • Educate and raise awareness of cancer among Inuit communities
  • Destigmatize the topic of cancer
  • Provide information on the importance of cancer prevention and cancer screening
  • Improve the conversation around cancer, how to be healthy and the dangers of smoking
  • Help with commercial tobacco prevention and cessation
  • Promote overall wellness
