This is the third report in the Cancer Risk Factors in Ontario series. It extends the work of the evidence summary report, which summarized the epidemiologic evidence for a wide range of cancer risk factors, by providing detailed information on the prevalence and distribution of alcohol consumption in Ontario. This information will inform public health and health professionals, as well as policy-makers involved in alcohol and cancer control efforts.
This report provides:
- detailed information on the prevalence and distribution of alcohol consumption in Ontario, with special attention to the recommendation related to alcohol from the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research
- estimates of the cancer burden in the province related to alcohol consumption
- information on socio-demographic differences in alcohol consumption, including consumption among Ontario’s off-reserve Aboriginal population
