Specialized Services Oversight

Specialized services are treatments and procedures performed in specialized centres because of their complexity. Cancer Care Ontario oversees these services to help ensure consistent quality and access for eligible patients in Ontario. This helps to avoid inappropriate use of costly services and out-of-country services, and promotes care as close to home as possible.

Our role is to ensure that there is appropriate access to these specialized services. This includes:

  • reviewing the latest evidence
  • providing funding and expert advice
  • planning and measuring quality and access at the provincial level
