Indigenous Cancer Care Unit

Cancer Care Ontario’s Indigenous Cancer Care Unit aims to improve cancer care for Ontario’s First Nations, Inuit and Métis people. 

The unit strives to reduce inequities in care and access to cancer services to ultimately improve cancer outcomes. It does this by building regional capacity through the Indigenous Navigators and Regional Indigenous Cancer Leads and Coordinators, and by developing Regional Indigenous Cancer Plans across the Regional Cancer Programs.

Building on the success of the second Aboriginal Cancer Strategy (2012 to 2015) and its 6 strategic priorities (see box), the unit will continue to implement successive strategies to address the inequities, variations and disparities experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Ontario. We will do this through collaborative partnerships and greater integration of care services, all in a way that promotes health equity.
