Ontario Cervical Screening Program Abnormal Result Reminder Letter

November 11, 2021

JANE SAMPLE
123 ANY STREET
ANY CITY, ON M1M 1M1

Dear Jane Sample:

This is an important reminder from the Ontario Cervical Screening Program. We sent you a letter several months ago letting you know you had an abnormal cervical screening test result. Our records show that you are overdue for follow-up.

A cervical screening test is an important tool in preventing cervical cancer because it checks cell changes in the cervix before problems develop. An abnormal test result means the cells taken from your cervix look different under a microscope from normal cells. Cell changes found through a cervical screening test are very rarely cancer, but do require follow-up testing.

Your healthcare provider should have received the full report about your test from the lab and may have already contacted you. If you have already had follow-up testing, please ignore this letter. If not, it is important that you contact your provider to talk about next steps and arrange for follow-up testing that is right for you.

You will also find a handout in this mailing with more information about what an abnormal cervical screening test means. We encourage you to read it and ask your healthcare provider any questions you might have.

Cervical screening is an important part of staying healthy. In most cases, cervical cancer can be prevented with regular screening and by having follow-up testing, if necessary.

Sincerely,

Dr. Linda Rabeneck, Vice-President
Prevention and Cancer Control, Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario)
