This is the second report in the Cancer Risk Factors in Ontario series. It extends the work of the evidence summary report, which summarized the epidemiologic evidence for a wide range of cancer risk factors, by providing detailed information on the prevalence and distribution of tobacco smoking, smoking cessation and second-hand smoke exposure in Ontario. This information will inform public health and health professionals, as well as policy-makers involved in tobacco and cancer control efforts.
This report uses a cancer perspective to examine tobacco use in Ontario and includes:
-
estimates of the cancer burden in the province related to tobacco-smoking
-
examinations of socio-demographic and geographic variations in tobacco smoking, smoking cessation and exposure to second-hand smoke
-
a section on tobacco use and exposure among Ontario’s off-reserve Aboriginal population
