Ontario Cancer Registry

The Ontario Cancer Registry (OCR) is the provincial database of information about all Ontario residents diagnosed with cancer. It also includes data on those who have died of cancer. The registry continually collects, manages and analyzes cancer data to produce timely and high-quality information on the burden of cancer in the province.

Cancer Data Sources

  • Hospital admission and discharge information from the Canadian Institute for Health Information
  • Pathology reports from public hospitals and community laboratories
  • Consultation and treatment records of patients who have been referred to one of 14 regional cancer centres or their associated hospitals
  • Death certificates from the Ontario Registrar General

The Ontario Cancer Registry exchanges information with other provinces and territories about residents diagnosed or treated outside of Ontario. This approach ensures completeness of provincial cancer records.

Cancer Care Ontario owns and manages the Ontario Cancer Registry under the authority of Ontario’s Cancer Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.
