Radiation

Radiation treatment is one of the main methods of treating cancer. You may receive radiation as your only form of treatment, or it may be combined with surgery and chemotherapy. Your exact treatment plan will be determined based on your type and stage of cancer.

If you are scheduled to have radiation and you smoke, quitting smoking can help your treatment work better. It also can reduce the chance of your cancer coming back or getting another form of cancer. For more information and resources, view Benefits of Quitting Smoking for People with Cancer.
