Guideline Objective

The objective of this guideline is to provide clinicians with updated recommendations for prevention and management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in adult patients, and promote standardized evidence-informed best practices across Ontario.

This update to the 2013 Antiemetic Report is based on current literature, ASCO, NCCN and MASCC/ESMO guidelines, and expert consensus of the Antiemetic Working Group. It includes updates to the recommendations for single-day and multiple-day IV chemotherapy, discussion around cannabinoids, new recommendations for oral chemotherapy and breakthrough CINV, and changes to emetic classification of certain chemotherapy regimens.

Patient Population

Adult patients receiving systemic treatment.

Intended Guideline Users

Clinicians involved in the care of patients receiving systemic treatment (Physicians, Pharmacists, Nurses)
