Guideline Objective

To determine the risk of cutaneous malignant melanoma (herein referred to as melanoma) associated with use of indoor tanning devices, including impact of age at first use and frequency of use on the relative risk of developing melanoma.

Patient Population

All users of indoor tanning beds.

Intended Guideline Users

Clinicians, other healthcare providers, users and potential users of indoor tanning devices in Ontario.

Research Question(s)

  1. Does the use of indoor tanning devices increase the risk of developing melanoma?
  2. Does age at first use of indoor tanning device affect the relative risk of developing melanoma?
  3. Does the frequency of indoor tanning device use affect the relative risk of developing melanoma?
